In the initial stages may people notice “mystery” bites when they awake in the morning. Many times, there may be several bites in a line or row. As the infestations progress you may see live insects in the bed, couch, chairs, or areas where activity is the most prevalent. Also, you may start to see blood stains in areas where they congregate which can be folds in the mattresses, bed boards, gaps in upholstery, in furniture and well as other commonly found cracks and crevices.

Termites’ colonies are in the soil. Many experts claim that there may be as few as one to ten colonies per square acre of ground. Termite workers build shelter tubes made from mud that are about the size of a number 2 pencil. These tubes are built from the ground to the infestation point. Many times, you will notice indentations in drywall in the initial stages of infestation. As time passes, structural timbers begin to lose some of their strengths to support other wooden components.

Pass Pest treats a variety of ants. The most common types of ants we encounter are odorous house ants, carpenter ants, pavement ants, and acrobat ants. Pass Pest controls most infestations with a variety of products. The most important thing to remember about ant control is proper identification. Some ants feed on protein-based food and others feed on sugar-based forage. Pass Pest uses a variety of baits to control infestations and knowing the species determines the type of product used. While we do use some sprays for ant and insect control it is important to also know the type as some species will “bud” off and create more colonies when encountering some pesticides.

Most sprays and “bombs” are permethrin-based insecticides. While an effective pesticide for many applications it is commonly used as a flushing agent which tends to push cockroaches deeper into harborage points. An effective strategy is  sanitation, residual insecticides, and bait used in conjunction to control roach infestations.

There are many types of termites nationwide. The only species that is of structural concern in our area is the subterranean termite which commonly infest structures in the Midwest. 

First, before traveling consult web review sites to see if there are reported cases of bedbugs where you are staying. If you are suspicious that you may have encountered bed bugs immediately dry your clothes on high in the dryer for 30 minutes. Any heat over 140 will kill all life cycles of bedbugs.

Exclusion is the best method to keep mouse infestation from developing. A good guide is to seal any exterior entry points that are larger than the size of a dime.

A good policy for reducing mosquito harborage is to  eliminate standing water areas and make sure there are no overgrown areas in the yard.

Wood to ground contact and excessive moisture are the most frequent problem associated with termite infestation. An annual inspection is highly recommended.
